Product Description

The origin of this famous chalice can be traced back to the Duke Tassilo III of Bavaria, Germany, VIII Century. It is one of the most important treasures of this era even though it was not known of until the XI or XII Century. It is the symbol of the wedding between the Duke Tassilo III, from Agilolfing dynasty that govern Bavaria and Liutpirc, the daughter of the Lombardian King Desiderius, and was presented by them in 777 to the Monastery of Kremsmunster (Germany) where ir is still preserved today.

Fire enameled version of the VIII century Tassilo chalice, executed in cloisonne fire enamel, solid 925 sterling silver, 24KT gold lined cup. It features The Messiah and the Four Evangelists on the cup. 8" Ht, 4-1/2" and 20 oz cup, 6-1/2" dia. paten.

Wording on the base in Latin: + PER IPSUM CUM IPSO IN IPSO +, meaning + FOR HIM WITH HIM IN HIM +, of important meaning in liturgy.

Made in Spain.
